Gamle Strynefjellsvegen, early September
The old mountain road between Grotli and Videseter was built in the 1890s and still has its stone edges. It is slow on purpose. We met four cars and one very calm sheep.
A road log from the west coast of Norway: passes, ferries and the occasional gravel detour.

The ferry over Nordfjord on the E39 is so short that on a summer Saturday the queue at Anda takes longer than the crossing itself. Arrive early or bring patience.
Even in July there were walls of old snow along the top of the pass. The road climbs from the fjord at Gaupne over the plateau and down to Lom, and the temperature dropped fifteen degrees on the way up.
